Making Your UI Work
We all were newcomers to WoW more or less recently.We all started to ask for more from the User Interface(UI) and didn't know how to get it but that is no longer the case thanks to the wonderful world of LUA programming and Addons.For those of you who don't know what an addon is it's a piece of code written in LUA which has endless posibilities.This page is going to be devoted to those pieces of code that have a positive impact on gameplay and most people find usefull.At the end of the page you will also find links to several UI replacement packs that alter ( to a bigger or lesser extent) the look and feel of the UI. The addons will be split in categories starting with :
Action Bar Addons
What do you do when you don't have enough space? You get more. But how? With Addons of course.These type of addons allow the configuration of your action bars in many different ways ( position, size, scale, nr. of buttons, nr. of culumns, transparency, etc).Bartender 4
This addon is regarded as one of the most popular addons for altering the way your action bars look and feel. It consumes a small ammount of memory and is easy to set up and use.Screen shot of an UI using Bartender4
Dominos
Dominos does all that Bartender4 does and a a little more.Appart from being able to fully configure your bars you can also also bind certain keys to action bar buttons. Spartan UI is an addon based on Bartender4 which moves a large majority of interface elements into a custom frame at the base of your screen.Spartan UI Screen Shot
These 3 addons are the most commonly used ones and will offer you enough posibilities to make your UI shine or hide with the transparency options.
Buff/Debuff Addons
By this type of addons I am refering to customizing the position and look of the buff/debuff frames and displaying them in a way that suits you needs.Elkano's Buff Bars

SatrinaBuffFrame
SatrinaBuffFrame allows the user to alter the position,number,scale and opacity of the buff/debuff frames and is easily configurable.Screenshot of SatrinaBuffFrame
Event Alert
Even though it doesn't offer the same functionality as the other addons Event Alert also acts like a movable frame for buffs. It will display a big(or smaller) icon letting you know whenever you gain a particularly useful buff ( Clearcasting,Backdraft,etc).Event Alert Screen Shot
Raiding Addons
If you are a raid leader you want to know what's happening when it's happening.This is where addons come in.Recount
Recount is an addon that watches what each player in your group does and based on that it will show the DPS(damage per second) ,Healing done, Over-healing Done,etc. in a movable and easily configurable frame. It also has an option to report a said category into a chat channel of your choosing.Next time a DPS is slacking off you'll know it.Recount Screen Shot
Omen Threat Meter
Omen, in the same way as recount, is a movable frame but instead of watching for what players do it keeps a closer eye on threat generated by them.With this addon you will always know when to stop DPSing in order not to take agro from the tank.Omen Screen Shot
Deadly Boss Mods
This addon is perhaps one of the most important and useful raiding addons ever made. It tracks the cooldown of various boss abilities and displays warnings for them. It will also tell you to move away if you sit in an AOE area.The configuration of it is a little bit tricky but the default settings work perfectly.Deadly Boss Mods Screen Shot
With these addons you can be sure that you will always know what is happening in your raids at any given time.
Unit Frames Addons
If you are bored of the plain default unit frames or want more information on them this is what you need to get. There are several addons and all of them are highly configurable and most are easy to set up.They alter the look and feel of a large number of frames: player,target,target of target, target of target of target, pet ,party and raid , arena frames, etc.This is true for all of them so in this ection i will only include the link to the addon and a screenshot of an UI using it.Shadowed Unit Frames

Grid
Grid is only a replacement for raid and party frames and not for the player, target, etc frames.It is used primarily as a healing addon since it is highly configurable in that way.Healing addons will be presented later on.Grid Screen Shot

Healing Addons
Do you not know who to heal?This is what these addons take care of.At the moment there are 2 good choices for healing and they will be presented.HealBot
This is a very useful addon for healing and particularly appeals to classes who use heals over time as their main healing method such as druids.It is very customizable and has options for virtually everything. Shortly put you will know if someone is in range if he has a heal over time on him and how much time is left of that heal over time.It can also be configured to show debuffs and agro warnings.It's probably the best addon for classes who use HOTs.HealBot Screen Shot
Grid && Clique
This second choice is composed of 2 addons that are incredible taken together.Clique gives you the option to bind different spells and abilities to key combinations and allows you to use them with grid.It's the best choice there is for classes who mostly use direct heals like shamans and paladins.I will not include a screenshot since it looks the same as grid.UI Packs
UI Packs are complete packages who will alter your UI with minimum configuration needed from the user. I will simply link them and include screenshots. The instalation is presented in the readme file of each package.Don't forget to make a backup of you interface and WTF folder both of which are located in the WoW folder.LUI

mbXtremeUI v2
This is another great UI pack but unfortunately it only supports one resolution natively(1920x1080) but feel free to go through the settings yourself.Miscelaneous Addons
This is the place for addons that are useful but don't exactly fit in any of the above categories.For the time being i will only link a few but feel free to enter more if you want to.OmniCC
OmniCC is an addon that tracks the cooldown on various abilities and displays a timer on the action bar.ButtonFacade
ButtonFacade is another small addon that changes the default texture of action bars and buff bars(compatible with SatrinaBuffFrame).It also has a large number of libraries but they have to be downloaded separately.Additional Addons
